Seed-Starting
Use a quality seed-starting soil A good seed-starting soil will be finer than regular potting soils. The mix should be fluffy, and in addition hold moisture well, but be breathable. Sufficient Light Providing the right amount of light is imperative. Seedlings that receive insufficient light will be thin and leggy, and this is quite often what discourages people most from starting their own seeds. Proper Moisture Be sure to monitor the moisture daily. The soil should be consistently moist, never dry or soaked. Plants that dry out will revive when watered, however they will never be as resillient as plants that stay constantly moist. Give Them Room To Grow As seedlings begin to grow transplant them to larger pots. To help them adjust to the outdoors place them outside for a few hours a day. This allows the plants to acclimate to their new environment without suffering shock.
Some seeds start better indoors than others. Root plants, such as carrots and turnips generally don't do well indoors. Some that do very well are tomatoes, peppers, celery, cauliflower, head lettuce and egg plant.
